Belfast Philharmonic Choir
Director and Organist - Stephen Doughty
Kodály'sMissa Brevis was first performed towards the end of the Siege of Budapest, in the cloakroom of the Budapest Opera House where Kodály and his wife had taken refuge. The piece is both poignant and hopeful, taking influences from Hungarian folksongs and dances as well as the composer's romantic polyphony, in a demonstration of the uplifting power of the voice. Belfast Philharmonic Choir present the piece in a virtual concert for spring, with Chorus Master Stephen Doughty performing on organ, and members of the choir taking on the solo roles. This is the choir's final performance of this unusual 2020/21 season, made available free for audiences everywhere to enjoy,
Supported by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland and the Department for Communities Stability and Renewal Programme for Organisations
